Here are some examples of the four types of tutors we offer and their hourly rates — Undergraduate Tutors, Graduate Tutors, Experienced Teachers and Professional Tutors, and Super Tutors.

Super Tutors

Cambridge attracts the world’s best academics: a select team of highly accomplished Super Tutors with many years’ outstanding teaching experience. Many of our Super Tutors have been Head of Department in at least one school. From £95 per hour.

Example of a Super Tutor

William has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford (Jesus College), and a PGCE in Mathematics. He has 7 A Levels (all top grade) including Mathematics and Further Mathematics, which enables him to teach a broad range of subjects and give a balanced perspective. He has taught at three major UK boarding schools: Eton College, Harrow School and St Edward’s School, Oxford. He has also taught in the state sector, and has experience working with students of all abilities. He has over 10 years’ experience as a private tutor, and several years’ experience as an examiner in both Maths and Economics for AQA and Edexcel up to A Level.

It is essential for the student to spend as much time as possible thinking and answering questions during tutorials. A good tutor will ask the right questions at the right time to allow the student to make connections. I provide them with the necessary structure and careful prompts to guide them towards better understanding. I am passionate about giving young people opportunities to improve. I love seeing students experience ‘lightbulb moments’. I have taught all of my adult life in some of the best schools in the world. I am a very keen sportsman. I have represented Wales at hockey and earned multiple Oxford Blues whilst at university. I also enjoy playing the piano to relax.

Experienced Teachers and Professional Tutors

Professional tutors with years of teaching experience, in-depth subject and syllabus knowledge. Experts in building confidence to achieve. From £70 per hour.

Example of an Experienced Tutor

Joe is a full-time member of the Oxford Tutors team, and has been teaching Economics since he graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford.

I graduated from Oxford with a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and have tutored Maths and Economics for a number of years. For the past year at Oxford Tutors, I have specialised in Maths, Economics, and Oxbridge Admissions, supporting students through their 11+ (MCS, Eton), 13+ (Stowe, St Edwards, Eton), 16+ (MCS, Sevenoaks, Westminster), GCSEs, A levels, IB Higher Level, and university applications.

Economics teaching, especially at Sixth Form, must focus on getting key definitions and concepts pinned down. The subject is totally new to most students, so the amount of vocabulary and ideas can be overwhelming for many. The more advanced students should be encouraged to explore the mathematical relationships behind the concepts they already know. I specialise in ensuring that my students are in the strongest possible position to combine a detailed understanding of the structure of the exam with their understanding of the core concepts which underpin the syllabus.

At Oxford, I was one of a handful of PPE students to sit Finals exams for all three subjects, giving me experience in Advanced Mathematics, Economic Theory, Law, History, Metaphysics, and much more. This broad approach allows me to approach difficult subjects in new ways that students might not have experienced at school.

Recent reviews from parents and students:

  • Joe has been a wonderful tutor – always creating a light and cheery atmosphere while tackling tricky mathematical problems and ensuring every topic is covered. He is a talented teacher with incredible patience and good humour. Many thanks for the invaluable work you have done with our daughter.

  • Exceptional and inspiring. Joe has had a very positive impact on our son. Could not recommend more highly.

  • I’m really enjoying lessons with Joe at the minute – he has extensive knowledge of Economics and communicates complex ideas in an engaging manner. He has helped me with numerous essay competitions in past lessons, and we are currently discussing ideas for my EPQ.

  • I am very delighted with Joe’s teaching. My daughter and I are very happy to have such an excellent tutor. My daughter says that she has never met such a teacher at her school in Tokyo. I really hope that she will get into Oxford University but even she fails, what she has been learning with Joe has been giving her great skills for her future life. Thank you and we would like to continue with Joe, please send me an invoice for the next 10 lessons.

Cambridge and Oxford Graduate Tutors

Tutors with degrees from the universities of Cambridge and Oxford — sometimes Masters or PhD/DPhil candidates — with proven track-records of academic success. From £60 per hour.

Example of a Graduate Tutor

Priyanka is a graduate of the University of Oxford (Merton College) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE). She is pursuing a Master’s Degree at the University of St Andrews this year. Her GCSE grades were 12 A*s (100% in all three Sciences, Religious Studies, Geography, History and Textiles) and for her A levels she scored top grades in Chemistry, History and Maths. She has over 200 hours of online & offline tutoring experience, and is experienced with TSA and Oxbridge interview preparation.

My approach to tutoring involves an initial assessment of a student’s strengths and weaknesses through a highly individualised exercise I prepare myself based around the syllabus and specification they are learning from. I then go on to teach concepts and methods they can use to successfully attack exam questions – it’s a tried and tested approach that works and helps students achieve their potential. The personalisation I can offer one-to-one is what I enjoy about tutoring, you can count on me to deliver a teaching style that isn’t a ‘cookie cutter’ one-size fits all.

Cambridge and Oxford Undergraduate Tutors

Academically outstanding, and selected for their natural teaching ability, they are excellent role models and mentors. Feedback from pupils and parents is always exceptional. From around £50 per hour.

Example of an Undergraduate Tutor

Susannah is reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at the University of Oxford (Somerville College).

I am well aware of the demands of A level Economics. I believe that every individual student has unique needs; for some it is about having the confidence in your abilities, for others it is about demystifying the exam technique, or it may just be that you need concepts explained in a different way. Having taken my Maths GCSE two years early, and then self-taught A level Maths, I realise how difficult it is to do it on your own, and how invaluable the tutor-tutee relationship is. Years of tutoring has equipped me with the ability to understand the individual’s learning needs, and the skillset to facilitate that learning.

Another example of an Undergraduate Tutor

Emily is reading Economics and Management at the University of Oxford (Pembroke College). She is an experienced tutor of Economics.

I am extremely passionate about Economics, and enjoy the theoretical literature and real-life scenarios that this subject involves. Economics includes mathematics, modelling and essay writing; these are skills I enjoy teaching as part of this tutoring initiative. My passion for learning and ambition meant I left college with top grades in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Economics and Physics.

I believe the key to my success was understanding the topics studied in detail, while ensuring this detail was clear and concise in my brain to carry me through exams. I achieved this with effective teaching and revision, skills I’d love to develop in my students. I enjoy rowing and running my own business in my free time, so I believed successful learning should be efficient, giving you time to expand yourself beyond just the textbook. I would be happy to help my students with their time management, as well as their academia.

Another example of an Undergraduate Tutor

Nikhil is an experienced tutor of Economics and Maths. After two years of Economics at Cambridge, he has switched to a Maths degree, making him well-placed to teach in both subject areas.

I am a mathematician at St John’s College, Cambridge, specialising in Methods and Stochastics. I have completed two years of Economics at Cambridge with a focus on Econometrics (specifically Bayesian and Markov-Switching Inference). I am a tutor in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Economics up to A level, as well as providing assistance with entrance examinations: ECAA preparation for Economics at Cambridge, and general Personal Statement and Interview preparation. I am caring, friendly, and professional. I am a keen member of the Cambridge Sports network, having played rugby and boxed for the University.
