Here are some examples of the four types of tutors we offer and their hourly rates — Undergraduate Tutors, Graduate Tutors, Experienced Teachers and Professional Tutors, and Super Tutors.

Super Tutors

Cambridge attracts the world’s best academics: a select team of highly accomplished Super Tutors with many years’ outstanding teaching experience. Many of our Super Tutors have been Head of Department in at least one school. From £95 per hour.

Example of a Super Tutor

Ed is an experienced Geography Teacher and Head of Department.

I have been teaching for 9 years and really enjoy making a difference, in particular on a one-to-one basis with students. I have taught all year groups (ages 11-18) and tutored the A Level (Edexcel/AQA exam boards) and GCSE (AQA, WJEC/Eduqas and Edexcel boards). I have also been an A Level Examiner in previous years. I can also provide preparation for 11+, 13+ and School Entrance Examinations, including Scholarship and Common Entrance. Experienced in online tutoring and face to face tutoring.

I have a BSc (2:1 Hons) in Geography from King’s College, London and a PGCE Geography at Kellogg College, University of Oxford.

My teaching style is calm and collected, wanting to find out what students’ strengths and weaknesses are initially and then helping them overcome some of their weaker areas (usually subject content or writing skills). I like to bring in different ways of learning, whether that is using YouTube, Twitter or even Play Doh! Learning needs to be memorable and I have always had a creative streak that comes through when I teach.

With tutoring, I really like to set some goals for students to work towards (i.e. improving essay writing skills) and teach them the tools, tips and tricks to support towards their goal. Teaching and tutoring is not about telling students the answers, it more about giving them the tools to find the answers themselves.

Outside of tutoring I love cricket and rugby, visiting the Austrian mountains and taking my dog out for long walks.

Another example of a Super Tutor

Tom has a BA in Geography from Cambridge University and is currently Head of Geography at a leading UK independent day and boarding school.

I am currently completing an MSc at the University of Oxford in Teacher Education. I have also previously taught at Harrow School. I am comfortable teaching across the full age range and have delivered teaching on both Physical and Human Geography topics. I am skilled at delivering various technical aspects of Geography including statistical analysis, GIS mapping and fieldwork. I have completed over 100 hours of private tuition. This work has been wide ranging and has included A level Geography teaching with a range of examination boards: I am familiar with the AQA, Edexcel and OCR specifications and also enjoy helping students with examination technique.

In addition to my roles in school, I am employed by Curriculum Press to produce articles for their GeoFactsheet series. I have had many articles published on a wide range of topics.

Concerning university admissions, I have extensive experience preparing candidates for Oxbridge interviews as well as pre-interview assessments. I am also skilled at assisting pupils with their personal statements.

A recent reference for Tom:

  • I have known Tom in a professional capacity for over two years. He is an excellent Head of Department and runs a very well-resourced and successful Geography department. He engages fully with pupils and staff and has had success at both GCSE and A level, with GCSE Geography now the most popular option. He prepares thoroughly for lessons and has excellent subject knowledge.

Experienced Teachers and Professional Tutors

Professional tutors with years of teaching experience, in-depth subject and syllabus knowledge. Experts in building confidence to achieve. From £70 per hour.

Example of an Experienced Tutor

Andy is a qualified Geography Teacher and professional Tutor.

Having gained my Undergraduate Honours degree from Loughborough University, I then completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education at the University of Oxford. With a passion for Education, Academia, Geography, and Physical Education/Sports Science, I gained a place to study for a Masters Degree in Environmental Geomorphology at the University of Oxford. With over 12 years of teaching experience at a leading Independent co-educational boarding school, I have gained invaluable experience as a teacher across varying age ranges, and the different syllabus content that accompanies my main subjects (Geography, Environmental Science, Physical Education and younger years teaching). Furthermore my time in the school environment, particularly boarding schools, has provided me with a range of opportunities in all areas of school life. As a result, I have gained valuable experience in all areas of academic life including tutoring, pastoral care, co-curricular leadership and management as well as sports and extra curricular coaching.

In addition to school life I have a wealth of experience as a private tutor and have worked with students from 11+ to undergraduate level. Tutoring face to face and the use of online platforms both offer wonderful educational outcomes and from experience, I feel that one-to-one and small group tutoring, support the purest and most effective learning strategies and promote optimal attainment outcomes.

Cambridge and Oxford Graduate Tutors

Tutors with degrees from the universities of Cambridge and Oxford — sometimes Masters or PhD/DPhil candidates — with proven track-records of academic success. From £60 per hour.

Example of a Graduate Tutor

Sophie is a Geography graduate from Keble College, Oxford specialising in Environmental and Human Geography.

Over the past three years, I have tutored many students across a range of subjects and levels, including GCSE and Primary School Maths and English, A level Geography and helping Sixth Form students with admissions to Oxford University. Having graduated from Latymer Upper School in West London, a prestigious independent London day school, fairly recently and with a sibling still at school, I am familiar with the syllabi and how to help pupils flourish. I have had a wonderful tutoring experience both online and in person, building up a strong relationship with each of my tutees and taking pride in watching them progress towards reaching their goals. I consider myself enthusiastic, engaging, professional, friendly and organised and therefore believe I can help students unlock their full potential.

Cambridge and Oxford Undergraduate Tutors

Academically outstanding, and selected for their natural teaching ability, they are excellent role models and mentors. Feedback from pupils and parents is always exceptional. From around £50 per hour.

Example of an Undergraduate Tutor

Chris is an undergraduate Geography student at Worcester College, Oxford.

I am passionate about people and how they interact with their environments. This is why I chose to study Geography at university. I have tutored many students at GCSE and A level. I have also been heavily involved in mentoring programmes, and more informal systems as School Captain.

Outside of the classroom, I play as much sport as possible. I am a qualified Cricket Coach, which I really enjoy – this has helped develop my communication and inter-personal skills. I am vice-captain of Oxford University’s cricket team having given up my summer contract with Hampshire CCC last year to focus on studying. I also play football, hockey and darts and head off on my mountain bike whenever I can.
