Here are some examples of the four types of tutors we offer and their hourly rates — Undergraduate Tutors, Graduate Tutors, Experienced Teachers and Professional Tutors, and Super Tutors.
Super Tutors
Cambridge attracts the world’s best academics: a select team of highly accomplished Super Tutors with many years’ outstanding teaching experience. Many of our Super Tutors have been Head of Department in at least one school. From £95 per hour.
Example of a Super Tutor
Jayne is an experienced teacher of French and German and a Sixth Form tutor.
I worked in various schools, independent and state for 30 years and took early retirement to do a masters in translation and interpreting. I have a real passion for languages and enjoy passing this enthusiasm on to young people. I studied French and German at Oxford University, completed a PGCE with distinction at Reading University and most recently a Masters in Translation and Interpreting, also with distinction. Over the course of my thirty-year teaching career, I have taught students of all ages and from all backgrounds. I was Head of Languages in independent schools such as Headington and Abingdon School, but also in Newlands Girls School, a state technology college. I have taught eight-year olds, making the learning fun with puppets and acting, but mostly young people studying for GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and Oxbridge. I have helped children with special needs to achieve success in language learning, but have also conducted extension classes for the gifted and talented. Whatever your child’s needs, I’ll adapt my teaching methods accordingly so as to maximise her or his learning experience. My approach will be to listen to the student’s perception of the problem, analyse for myself by setting practice work in the four skills, create a personalised learning package and monitor progress closely over the following weeks.

Patti is a dual national Anglo-Colombian and fully bilingual and bi-cultural in Spanish and English.
I hold a BEd Honours degree in Modern Languages, a postgraduate degree in Applied Linguistics and an MA in Education with an emphasis on Curriculum Design. As a language teacher, I have worked in top independent schools in Oxfordshire, such as St Edward’s School, SHSK and Headington and Radley College. I have a proven excellent record teaching the IB as well as a Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 and have successfully enabled my students to transition between levels and achieve the highest results in their exams.
Since 2015 I have become a well-established contributor to the TES resources page with more than 130,000 downloads. My materials range from interactive PowerPoint games and presentations, worksheets, lesson plans to GCSE study guides. This is my sixth year as an IB examiner, and I am currently a Team Leader for Paper 1. Also, I work with Cambridge International Examinations as an A Level and IGCSE Spanish/Spanish Literature examiner.
My students have described me as inspirational, passionate, innovative, creative, caring and demanding. Being a native speaker with a thorough understanding of Spanish grammar and literature has helped them not only to achieve outstanding grades in their exams, but also to develop a genuine, deep and lasting interest in the Hispanic culture.
Experienced Teachers and Professional Tutors
Professional tutors with years of teaching experience, in-depth subject and syllabus knowledge. Experts in building confidence to achieve. From £70 per hour.
Example of an Experienced Tutor
Elodie is a native French speaker, and an experienced tutor of French.
I have been living and studying in Paris, New York, London, and I am now based in Oxford where I am pursuing my studies in Art History and Literature. I formerly completed a BA in French and English Linguistics, which gave me both a solid foundation and understanding of how these two languages work, but also how they differ.
I work with students to improve their French, be it through conversations, lessons or translations. Throughout my studies in France and the UK, I have gathered extensive experience in private tutoring of French and English. Children and adult learners are all welcome.
I am fun, enthusiastic and creative and my approach to learning a language follows these principles – it should be an exciting experience, not a a painful task! I absolutely adore any and all things English and French, and I am highly motivated to share that passion with others. My background in linguistics, translations and my studies in English and French literature means that I have gained a thorough understanding of the mechanisms and differences between these two languages. This means that I can adapt and tailor my skills to each individual student.

Thank you so much for helping me and dedicating so much time to help me, I really adored having lessons with you and I genuinely feel that this was only possible with your help and that confidence that you gave me! Doing the project on Magritte was certainly a highlight and all the extra research you gave was very helpful and crucial to the project. Mum also sends a big thank you and she really appreciates all the work you put into helping me! Thank you so, so, so much again!
Another example of an Experienced Tutor
Rhys has been working as a tutor for nearly 10 years, with a focus on Oxbridge admissions and Spanish.
Since completing my degree, earning a First in Linguistics and Spanish from St Catherine’s College, Oxford, tutoring has become the mainstay of my work. I regularly attend Oxbridge admissions-focused events for both schools and the general public, as an experienced mock interviewer, seminar leader, and test coach. My speciality is Spanish, though I always hope for aspiring Linguistics students! When tutoring, I do not use the word “lesson”; that’s a poor description of the dynamic. Students have a goal, and it is the task of both me and a student to work towards that goal. I have a very informal style in the session, but I hope to back this up with good communication and organisation behind the scenes. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and snooker (even though I’m hopeless at it).
Cambridge and Oxford Graduate Tutors
Tutors with degrees from the universities of Cambridge and Oxford — sometimes Masters or PhD/DPhil candidates — with proven track-records of academic success. From £60 per hour.
Example of a Graduate Tutor
Victoria Fendel is a professional tutor with many years’ experience.
I did my BA in Classical civilisations (majors: Greek, Latin) at the University of Basel and my MA in Ancient Greek and Ancient Near East Studies (archaeology and languages) also at the University of Basel yet spending one semester at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the Free University of Berlin during an ERASMUS exchange during my MA. I then completed my DPhil in Classical Languages and Literature at the University of Oxford (Lady Margaret Hall) with a thesis on Classical Lingusitics. Last but not least, I did an MPhil in Theoretical and Applied Lingustics at the University of Cambridge (Peterhouse) with a thesis on French Linguistics.
In addition, I acquired teaching qualifications for a university context (SEDA PDF) and a non-university context (Teach English as a Foreign Language). I taught Biblical Hebrew at the University of Basel, Greek and Latin at the University of Oxford, Classical civilisations at Oxford Summer Courses and English as a Second Language at two schools in Kathmandu, Nepal during a volunteer placement and at Oxford Summer Courses.

Another example of a Graduate Tutor
Nell is a graduate of Christ Church, Oxford with a First in French & Italian Language and Literature.
I have teaching experience in languages. I am well-versed in the application process to Oxford and really loved the experience of studying languages there. I am a recent graduate in French and Italian from Christ Church, Oxford, where I was an academic and music scholar. I specialised in Modern French and Medieval Italian, and chose Molière and Racine as my “special authors”. I also wrote a dissertation on Francophone “Travel, exile and migration” from the Huguenots to the modern day. Previously, I studied at St Paul’s Girls’ School, where I was a music scholar and member of the head girl team. I took A levels in French, Italian and Music (all A*) and English Literature AS.
I have seen the transformative effects that personalised, engaging teaching can have on a student’s ability and passion for studying languages: I am keen to pass on the fascination and drive that my teachers encouraged in me.
Beyond my great interest in foreign literature and culture, I am very passionate about music, sport, and am a keen foodie. I lived in Nîmes and Bologna on my year abroad, where I joined local orchestras and choirs.
Cambridge and Oxford Undergraduate Tutors
Academically outstanding, and selected for their natural teaching ability, they are excellent role models and mentors. Feedback from pupils and parents is always exceptional. From around £50 per hour.
Example of an Undergraduate Tutor
Elena is a Geography student at the University of Oxford.
I grew up in the Canary Islands, Spain and I am a native Spanish speaker. I attended the British School of Gran Canaria and have therefore also taken GCSE and A level Spanish examinations. I have experience mentoring and teaching younger students in both Geography and Spanish. Throughout Sixth Form, I engaged with the primary Spanish department to support student with reading and writing skills in Spanish. More recently, I have been working as a private tutor online and I am proud to say I have received only 5-star reviews from my pupils.

Elena is a native Spanish speaker. She has excellent English (oral communication and written) and is a diligent, well-organised and very able student. She has shown herself to be equally adept in the science and social science elements of our Geography course. She is always well prepared for tutorials and contributes well to discussion. She is attentive, polite and unassuming.
